Dr. Robert Humston will discuss water quality impairment in Hays Creek and the efforts developing through the Program in Environmental Studies Chesapeake Bay Program to assist with monitoring and improving water quality in the watershed.

The Selective Liberal Arts Consortium (SLAC) is hosting interview days in Chicago, Boston, NYC and DC.  W&L seniors from all majors are invited to apply for these opportunities.  Interested students should attend this meeting to learn about the application, selection and interview process.  A wide variety of employers and industries are represented, and W&L students are competing with only 13 other schools across the nation for these jobs.  Application deadlines fall in late October and early November.

Sharon Squassoni works for the Carnegie Endowment and is a senior associate in the Nonproliferation Program currently working on Iran in addition to nonproliferation issues.

She has been analyzing nonproliferation, arms control and national security issues for two decades. Her research focuses on nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear energy.

Squassoni's talk, which is free and open to the public, is titled "The Obama Nuclear Agenda." She will discuss a number of related arms control issues including nonproliferation in Iran and North Korea.

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, led by Misha Rachlevsky, has earned national and international recognition as one of Russia's leading ensembles.

Founded in 1991, the orchestra, comprising some of Russia's finest young string players, has carved a niche for itself and tours regularly in North and South America, Europe and the Far East.

At W&L they will play Bach's Concerto for 2 Violins, as well as Tchaikovsky's beloved "Serenade for Strings."

will be held on the campus of Virginia Military Institute.  This year's program is The New Energy Future.  There will be presentations on wind, solar, biomass renewable energy sources as well as conventional energy sources.  Energy conservation and effeciency and state and local energy policies will also be covered.

The Kamen Collection of Western Art, bequeathed to W&L in 1986 by Stan Kamen '49L, brings to W&L the benefits of Kamen's personal taste and knowledge. It offers a view of the American West and particularly of the "Old West" that has been created by some of America's foremost twentieth-century west artists.

The Kamen Gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Kamen Gallery: Netsuke, A Glance at Part of the Glickstein Collection September 1, 2009 - December 20, 2009 Kamen Gallery no charge

Introduced in 14th-century Japan, the netsuke would hang from a kimono's obi or sash by a cord to attach the container in which Japanese men would store their personal belongings. These soon became elaborately sculpted from ivory, lacquer, wood and other exotic materials.

The netsuke in the Washington and Lee Collection come from alumnus Joseph M. Glickstein.
