W&L Repertory Dance Company will be performing Thursday, Jan. 28th and Friday, Jan. 29th at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 30th at 3 p.m. in the Keller Theatre. Immediately following each performance, Davies invites you to join the company for guest artist talk-back sessions. W&L Repertory Dance Company promises an exciting performance filled with a variety of pieces including nine guest artist and faculty pieces and 11 student pieces. Featured guest artists include William H. Meadow's Shall Wii Dance? in collaboration with Jenefer Davies will be performed by the company. The work uses video game controllers, called WiiMotes, to transform dancers' movements and gestures into sound. The blending of technology with the raw physicality of dance will highlight the unusual interplay of the physical and virtual worlds within daily life creating a unique performance each night.
Also, featured in the performance is Arachne Aerial Arts, an award-winning duo out of D.C., one of whom is Sharon Witting W&L Class of '91. The two dancers met while dancing with Cirque du Soleil, and their performances beautifully combine the artistry of dance with the drama of aerial acrobatics. They are highly entertaining as they soar over the stage taking the performance to new heights.
Featured in the 2010 performance are student choreographers A'rese Empokae '10, Aleisha Butler '10, Sophie Xiong '10, Molly Harrington '10, Zaq Lawal '10, Hannah Kate Mitchell '10, Stephanie Brown '11 and Ashna Sharan '12.
